WHY YOGA?

I cannot do handstands and I cannot do the splits.

I have never been to an Ashram and I have never been to India.

Why do I practice Yoga?

The very ordinary answer to this question is that ‚practicing Yoga simply makes me feel good‘. My body feels toned, flexible and agile and my mind feels calm, steady and at ease, my energy is more balanced and my soul feels taken care of.

Yoga is a self care practice. When I take good care of myself, I can fill up my own love vessel and be a more loving presence in this world.

And what I also really like about Yoga is that the experience does not end on the mat. I can take those wonderful teachings into my daily life and they sometimes help me to navigate challenging situations more skilfully and gracefully. And I always find it fascinating when modern research and science nods to what those Indian dudes have been talking about for thousands of years.

My wish is that you get to experience the wonderful benefits of Yoga in your life, too.

The popular perception of yoga is that it is an exercise practice to develop physical strength and flexibility. In fact, it is a holistic collection of practices designed to bring your whole being, body, mind and spirit, into balance.

Yoga is not about creating beautiful poses, but the poses are just a setting for us to practice paying attention. In a world that is so focused on ‘looking good’ and ‘getting it right’, we use our yoga practice to focus on ‘what feels good’ and ‘what feels right’.
